Richard’s resolute forceful character is apparent in this drawing that accurately records his physiognomy; it shows his brow characteristically contracted, his gaze directed outward, yet his mind’s eye turned inwards, estimating, considering; his lips reveal an unguarded tightness, yet not without a hint of sensuality. Obviously, Richard’s appearance was notable for his great mass of black hair streaked with grey and his full arched eyebrows. I selected this  three-quarter view, almost in profile perdu to record these characteristics. I am uncertain what medium I used; possibly conte crayon or chalk or perhaps charcoal.
